Please contact Governor Brown and Representative Clem and encourage them to oppose extensive roadside tree removal in Oregon! As communities rebuild after this season’s wildfires, we need to protect what’s left of Oregon's burned landscapes. Send a letter asking Governor Brown and Representative Clem to protect Oregon Forests, so they can grow back into beloved recreational areas for all. If left alone, forests will regrow.

Protect Oregon's Forests from mismanaged roadside tree removal!

The Oregon Department of Transportation is moving too quickly and cutting trees down excessively. Right now, 64,000 trees are marked and 24,000 have already been cut. Oregon's forest lands are important for recreation, drinking water quality, landslide prevention, and habitat. Let's only cut down trees that pose real hazards. If left alone, Oregon's forests will regrow.

Subject: Protect Oregon's Recreation Areas

Message:

We already lost so much in the 2020 fires, so I ask that you protect the live trees and wildlife in Oregon’s forests and send in expert crews to restore public access to our beloved trails and scenic highways. I would like to see all live trees, trees far from roads, and trees in well-loved recreation areas preserved.

An OPB article reported that ODOT’s hazard tree removal project was rushed. 64,000 trees are marked and 24,000 have already been cut. I am concerned that extensive cutting will destroy Oregon’s beloved recreation sites. We should protect our forests and allow them to regrow, so future generations can enjoy them too.

Natural areas will soon recover from fire, but it will take much longer for them to regrow after extensive cutting. In addition to converting scenic areas into ugly exposed landscapes, tree removal will keep state forests closed to the public.

As communities rebuild after this season’s wildfires, we need to protect what’s left by leaving live trees standing and retaining fire-killed trees for habitat. I ask that you serve public interests by preserving Oregon’s Forests.
